Consider hiring a professional

If a situation has suddenly landed on you or your loved ones, with severe consequences imminently looming over your head, then you need to quickly decide whether to hire a professional, even though there will certainly be significant financial expense.

You can learn the basics, and you can become not only a winner but also someone who makes others into winners. However, if a situation arises when you have not yet learned the basics, then you may be forced to pull out your wallet and prepare to liquidate your assets into the pocket of someone with a bar card. (And blindly hope you picked a good one.)

That's why this course exists. Every one of us who lives in a civilized society needs to know about the laws that are in effect all around us. If you learn now — at least the basics — then you will never be helpless and hopeless at the mercy of a system you don't understand.

It is simple for you to become a knowledgeable person who can handle your own legal affairs just fine. And then if you ever decide to look for a hopefully-decent professional, you will be able to tell them exactly what you want them to do, and when they try to make you pre-pay or sell you a story about the law or bill you for smoke and mirrors instead of results, you won't fall for it.

Most importantly, you need to be able to evaluate yourself and evaluate the situation in which you find yourself, so that you can wisely choose whether or not to hire a professional.

Picking Your Battles

One of the more important preliminary decisions you will make is where to focus the investment of your time and energy.

Not every battle is worth fighting. Some battles are really expensive, or really time-consuming. Sometimes the "win" actually is not worth much. Some opponents will surprise you with how intensely they fight back.

Generally speaking, the battles you pick will be more enjoyable for you, and less stressful.
